About Fatal Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents have been on the rise nationwide. In Minnesota, there were 72 motorcycle accident fatalities recorded for 2008. This is an 18% increase from 2007. Yes, the number of registered motorcycles has doubled; but, this increase is still disturbing. Motorcycles should be safer with all of the technological advances, including better tires, brakes, suspension, frames, helmets, and clothing.
About half of the time motorcycle crashes involve another vehicle. Frequently, these accidents result from a car driver turning in front of or pulling out into a motorcyclist’s path, violating their right-of-way. The motorcyclist then has two options: crash into the vehicle or crash trying to avoid it. In these cases, most of these motorists never saw the motorcycle, or saw it too late to avoid the crash.
Many fatal motorcycle accidents occur as a result of debris on the roadway. If the offender can be identified, the family can pursue a claim against their insurance company. If the offender cannot be identified, an uninsured motorist claim can be filed against the motorcyclist’s insurance policy. Our Minnesota Motorcycle Accident Lawyers would be willing to explain your legal rights and options, as well as how the victim’s car insurance policy would apply to an accident resulting from roadway debris.
