Minnesota IME – Independent Medical Exam
An Independent Medical Exam (IME) is a medical evaluation scheduled by the no-fault insurance company. Calling it an IME is a misnomer. An IME is not an independent exam, nor is it a second opinion. It is a way for the insurance company to hire a doctor, who has not previously been involved in your care, to examine you. The purpose of the exam is to find a reason to deny your benefits or to provide support for the defense. Insurance companies make a profit by not paying medical bills or claims.
The doctors that perform the IMEs are real doctors but they are chosen because they hold to certain opinions. IME doctors, if called to testify at trial, make great witnesses. It is vital to choose a law firm that is familiar with these types of doctors in order to execute effective cross examination. The attorneys at TSR Injury Law keep extensive histories of these doctors and have prior reports to show bias. We also track their income to inform juries, helping them understand the financial rewards some of these professional doctors are reaping.
