At 12:15 a.m. Sunday morning, St. Paul police started clearing lots where racers had been gathered. Most of the racers left peacefully, but a 20-year-old woman sped away. She ran a red light, crashing into a vehicle at University and Vandalia Street. The 39-year-old St. Paul man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman sustained minor injuries. Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Schnell said that the suspect did not show signs of alcohol impairment. She was booked into the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation.
Investigators are reconstructing the accident to determine the speed at the time of impact.
